Shopify is making e-commerce setup as easy as typing a few words. The company has launched AI Store Builder, a new tool that lets anyone generate a fully designed online store by simply entering a short keyword prompt. This update marks a major leap in store automation, aiming to lower the barrier for first-time sellers.

With just a few descriptive phrases, the AI Store Builder presents users with three layout options—each complete with images, product categories, and sample text. Merchants can quickly customize these templates and launch a polished storefront without touching a single line of code.

Unlike previous AI integrations and third-party plugins, this is Shopify’s first fully automated, native tool that handles end-to-end store creation. According to Shopify’s VP of Product Vanessa Lee, the idea is to replace the often overwhelming task of designing a site with a more conversational, AI-guided experience. Instead of dragging elements or filling out complex forms, users now answer open-ended questions, and the AI does the heavy lifting.

This launch aligns with Shopify’s broader strategy of embedding artificial intelligence across its ecosystem. Over the past few years, the platform has introduced AI-driven features for image generation, inventory management, and product descriptions. The new AI Store Builder, however, takes things further by tackling the very first step of online selling—getting the store up and running.

For entrepreneurs, side hustlers, and small business owners, this could be a game-changer. Setting up an e-commerce site no longer requires hours of design work or hiring a developer. With this tool, a fully functional store is just a prompt away.

Founded in 2004 by Tobias Lütke, Daniel Weinand, and Scott Lake, Shopify originally emerged out of a need to sell snowboarding gear online. Dissatisfied with existing solutions, Lütke built his own platform. Since then, Shopify has become a global commerce powerhouse, powering billions in annual sales. This latest AI upgrade underscores the company’s mission to keep e-commerce accessible, fast, and user-friendly for everyone.
