Noxtua, a Berlin-based startup once known as Xayn, is jumping into the spotlight with a bold idea—AI tailored to the German legal system. The company just raised $92.2 million in Series B funding to push that vision forward.

The round was led by C.H. Beck, Germany’s top legal publisher. This gives Noxtua access to one of the largest legal archives in the country—over 55 million documents. Other backers include Northern Data Group, CMS, Dentons, Global Brain, and IOTA co-founder Dominik Schiener.

Building AI for Germany’s Legal System

Noxtua stands out by focusing entirely on the German legal space. While most legal AI models are trained on English data, Noxtua’s model is different. It’s built using only German legal texts—from contracts to court rulings. This allows for unmatched precision when analyzing, drafting, or reviewing documents.

It’s also fully compliant. Noxtua hosts its AI on Northern Data’s infrastructure in Frankfurt, keeping all data within Germany. This setup helps law firms meet tough privacy and data handling rules set by the EU and German regulators.

Originally, Noxtua focused on privacy-first AI for smartphones. But as legal complexity in Europe grew, so did the need for local, compliant AI tools. The founders, Leif-Nissen Lundbæk and Michael Huth, saw this gap early and made the pivot.

A Homegrown Answer to Legal AI

Noxtua’s AI uses transformer-based models fine-tuned for German law. It’s not a generic model like ChatGPT. Instead, it understands the structure, tone, and rules that define Germany’s legal system. This makes it especially useful for local lawyers and public institutions.

The startup has partnered with heavyweight legal players. CMS and Dentons are not just investors—they’re active collaborators. They feed new data into the system and test features, ensuring the tool keeps evolving with the legal field.

This hyperlocal focus is Noxtua’s edge. While other legal AI platforms chase global markets, Noxtua is winning in its own backyard by offering compliance-ready tools German lawyers can trust.

A Strategic Move for Europe’s Digital Future

As AI governance becomes more important, countries in Europe are looking for trusted, local alternatives to U.S. tech giants. Noxtua offers a blueprint. Its model keeps data local, ensures privacy, and delivers domain-specific results.

Dr. Leif-Nissen Lundbæk puts it plainly: Europe’s digital future depends on hard, technical solutions—not just policies. With C.H. Beck and Northern Data onboard, Noxtua is in a strong position to lead.

Backers agree. C.H. Beck says this partnership is key to its innovation strategy. CMS sees it as the foundation for a new AI-powered tool that could change how lawyers work every day. Dentons calls it a step toward transforming legal services across Europe.

With this round, Noxtua isn’t just building a product. It’s creating an entire AI infrastructure designed for legal accuracy, privacy, and compliance in Germany—and perhaps, soon, beyond.
