Google is taking a big leap with Gemini AI, bringing it to Wear OS smartwatches, Google TV, Android Auto, and its new XR platform. This move is part of a broader plan to replace Google Assistant with Gemini across all devices.
Announced during the Android Show ahead of Google I/O, the update signals a clear shift. Google wants its AI assistant to go far beyond phones. The idea is simple: bring Gemini to places where your hands are busy, and your phone isn’t in reach.
Wear OS smartwatches will soon support Gemini AI right on the wrist. This allows users to interact with the assistant during everyday activities. Imagine setting a reminder while cooking or getting directions while cycling—without needing your phone.
You don’t need to speak perfectly, either. Gemini understands natural language. For instance, if you’re in a gym locker room and your phone is packed away, you can just say, “Remember I’m using locker 43.” That’s it. Gemini saves it instantly.
Gemini also connects with your apps. You can ask about the restaurant your friend emailed you about, all while staying in your workout flow.
On Google TV, Gemini will help with personalized recommendations. You can ask for action movies that are safe for kids or search for family-friendly shows. It can even answer questions, like “What’s the solar system?” and instantly play an educational video from YouTube.
Later this year, Gemini AI will also launch on Android XR. This platform powers extended reality devices, including smart glasses and headsets. The first product to support it is Samsung’s Project Moohan headset, expected to arrive soon.
With XR, Gemini becomes a guide inside immersive spaces. You could plan a vacation by simply looking around. Maps, videos, and travel tips would surround you, helping you build a full trip plan within minutes.
Guemmy Kim, who leads product and UX on the Android team, shared how Gemini fits into this vision. It will answer questions about what you’re viewing and support deep interaction in mixed-reality environments.
Gemini is also coming to Android Auto. This rollout will bring smarter voice assistance to cars. You’ll be able to ask for a charging station that’s close to both your post office and a park. You can also ask it to summarize your messages or give you a quick news update while driving.
From smartwatches to TVs, and from XR headsets to your car, Google is turning Gemini AI into a truly all-in-one assistant. Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, Gemini will be there to help—hands-free, personalized, and smarter than ever.
